SAT Talks: Architecture+ is a series of online conversations that aim to create dialogues exploring the social responsibilities of architects, urban planners, academics and their multidisciplinary interlocutors. Times of crisis, such as the current pandemic, demand us to question what we value in our respective disciplines and collectively rethink environmental and social sustainability at various scales.

Series 1: Architecture+ Community engages three architects, Mariam Kamara, Marina Tabassum, and Yasmeen Lari, each of whom have established practices strongly rooted in their context and addressing environmental, socio-cultural, and gender issues. Together, we explore the value of community engagement and participatory design as well as the architect’s limitations in responding to immediate challenges.

Series 2: Architecture+ City engages in conversation with scholars from a range of disciplines including history, political economy, architecture, and urban planning, each of whom has contributed to the growing literature on Gulf cities. This series of three podcasts explores the forces that shape Gulf cities and their particular urban forms while investigating the social and economic factors that challenge the formation of urban communities in the Gulf.

Series 3: Architecture+ Infrastructure engages in conversation with multidisciplinary speakers who have contributed to a growing body of research on infrastructure in the Gulf. This series explores how investment in infrastructure for the extraction, production, transportation, and distribution of resources shapes Gulf cities' relationships to regional and global networks. These conversations also investigate the capacity of infrastructure to be maintained, adapted, or reimagined within the Gulf and at the planetary scale.
