Deepti Talpade is an urban development practitioner focused on bottom-up and equitable approaches to city planning. She worked on the Development Plan 2014–34 for Mumbai and has consulted with organisations such as GIZ, AKAH India, SPARC, Pani Haq Samiti, KRVIA design cell, and the Institute for Sustainability (London) on housing, water, environment, and citizen engagement. Her recent work centres on urban greening, heat resilience, and nature-based solutions, including leading 12+ scientific greening projects in Mumbai, which have not only enhanced climate resilience but also influenced governance practices to be more participatory and inclusive of vulnerable communities. Deepti is currently Program Lead – Urban Development & Resilience at WRI India, supporting governments in Maharashtra and other cities in India to integrate nature-based solutions into urban policy and governance. She holds a Master’s in Architecture (Urban Design) and a Master of Science in Urban Management and Development, and continues to advocate for greener, more resilient, and equitable Indian cities.
